Successful sepia breeding at Deltapark Neeltje Jans
Deltapark Neeltje Jans proudly shares that our animal team has managed to successfully breed cuttlefish in the Bluereef Aquarium. Previously, cuttlefish have been born in various laboratories, zoos and/or aquariums, but never from their own breeding and fertilised naturally. So this is a unique global achievement !
Chief caretaker of Deltapark Neeltje Jans, Madelon van der Maas, is immensely proud of the team’s efforts to achieve this wonderful success.
The little cuttlefish will soon be on display at the park, where visitors will have the chance to admire these special animals up close and learn more about their role in the marine ecosystem. Until then, cuttlefish, which were previously born from eggs taken from Eastern Scheldt, can be admired.
